Hello! My name is Alyson Miles and I am an Oglebay Junior Nature Camp alumni! Some of the “oldies” out their might remember me better as Alyson Wright. From 1981 to 1984, my sister Ellen and I attended camp with some of our friends and neighbors from Rockville, MD. These friends included Helena Furberg, Jonas Furberg, Ashley Burdge , and Colin Winterbottom. If there is anyone from Rockville out there that I am forgetting, please forgive me - it has been a long time!
My summers at Oglebay were some of the best days of my life. I made friends at camp that I still keep in touch with today and many more that I remember often and fondly. But like many of us, summer jobs, internships, and eventually “real” jobs took priority and I was unable to return as camper or counselor.

Luckily, some hardworking and dedicated stewards of Oglebay Junior Nature Camp continued to place camp high on their priority list and, thanks to them, nature camp is part of my children’s lives today. My oldest two children, Julia and Mason Miles, began attending camp in 2008 and look forward to it year after year just as I did. Last summer my youngest daughter, Libby, as well as my nieces, Gwen and Addie Gagnon, attended camp while Ellen and I volunteered in the dining hall.
During the rest of the year, my family and I live in Carrollton, VA where my husband is stationed at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. I work part-time as a home health care coordinator. My sister, Ellen, still lives in Rockville and teaches math at Frost Middle School.
