Tuesday's photos if Jessica's Nature Mosaics class did not show the actual construction of the campers' art. Here we will see that process.

The campers first think of a design they would like to use, or do something free form. They then select the materials they wish to use and layout the design on a cardboard blank.

It was an interesting and fun process to watch.

Slowly, but surely an image/idea in the mind solidified in front of each camper.

Picking and choosing carefully, the mosaics started to take shape.

Once campers were done with their design they were given a palette on which to place it. I this case it the palette is a 5x5 ceramic tile with raised borders glued in place. This raised area is then filled with a viscous, hard drying compound into which the campers place the objects of their design.

Here instructor Jessica shows the counselors how to fill in voids.

Counselors Chris and Erica get more palettes ready for the campers

With the level of concentration need to perform the task, there was very little chatter. Everyone was very absorbed in what they were doing.

It was really fun watching the whole process unfold.

A nice camp memento to take home.
