Ted and Ellen continue with their discussions and demonstrations of The Nature of Touch. Here, Stephen is asked, with his eyes closed, to guess how many toothpicks are touching the skin on his arm.

 

 

He has a hard time making this determination and most of his guesses are incorrect.

 

 

But, when Ellen switched to his fingertips Stephen was able to determine without hesitation how many toothpick were being used at any given time. A clear and graphic way to show how skin sensitivity varies.

 

 

Another sensual challenge: Determining the differences in fur texture.

 

 

These gloves were used to further challenge the campers and encourage concentration. Wearing the gloves they were asked to identify certain familiar objects without looking at them.
