Using a hand lens, campers check to see if a flower is glabrous or hirsute.

The hand lens being used here belongs to instructor Bill Beatty. Bill purchased the hand lens from Libby Bartholomew, now deceased who taught at both Mountain Nature Camp and Junior Nature Camp for many years.

Here, Bill has campers smell a mint so as to prove that not all plants in the mint family smell "minty".

Bill explains how to use a taxonomic key to identify a plant using it's floral parts.
